The terms of reference
The EFCC Quality Management Committee follows the further developments of the IVD directive 98/79 CE and supports the professionals in their relation with IVD manufacturers concerning the implementation of the essential requirements stated in this directive and the necessary information on IVD’s needed for accreditation.
The Committee is also responsible for supporting activities relating to accreditation and quality management systems in Europe, and liaision with bodies concerned with the production of international standards (ISO and CEN), with the organization and implementation of European Accreditation (EA) and with other specialty and professional organizations (e.g. UEMS) as required.

Terms of reference
The Quality Management Committee works towards the following general goals of EFCC:
- To promote and improve science and education within the field of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine.
- To improve patient outcomes and the quality and safety of patient care through the highest standards of laboratory medicine.
The Quality Management Committee is responsible for the following specific objectives of EFCC:
- Developing initiatives to improve the quality of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine as practised in Europe.
- Harmonising standards of practice in quality management through production of guidance documents stating best practice in areas of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine.
- Supporting the establishment of effective accreditation schemes in all European countries
- Co-ordinating accreditation matters relating to clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine and liaising with ISO, CEN and European Accreditation on accreditation matters.
